The Ohio State football team is the clear favorite to win the Big Ten this season. Despite the fact that they haven't won a Big Ten title since 2020, the defending national champs are considered the favorites to win the conference this year. With the talent they have, that makes sense.
Heading into the year, there were two other teams who have the best chance of knocking off the Buckeyes in their pursuit of a conference championship. Penn State and Oregon are by far the two most talented teams in the Big Ten other than the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Unfortunately for the Ducks, they may have just lost their best offensive player for the entire season before it even starts. There are reports that wide receiver Evan Stewart has suffered a serious injury. That injury could keep him out for most, if not all, of 2025. That means Penn State jumps ahead of them.
Penn State is the biggest threat to beating the Ohio State football team for a Big Ten title
Penn State is seen by many as another national championship contender. With as many pieces as they bring back, especially on offense, they should be dangerous. Their wide receiving corp was a big problem last year and really help them back from advancing past Notre Dame in the CFP.
That unit should be a little better this year. They also might have the best one-two punch at running back in the country. Of course, it all hinges on the play of former five-star recruit Drew Allar. How he plays the quarterback position will determine just how far this team is able to go.
The Nittany Lions will travel to the Shoe this season to play Ohio State's toughest home game of the year. If Penn State wins that game, they will have an inside track at winning the conference championship. Of course, it will depend on what other games Penn State is able to win.
Ohio State is not expecting to lose that game. They expect to win every game every year. Coming off of a national championship, this year is no different.
