The Ohio State football program will have a lot of new starters next season. That's especially true on the defensive side of the ball. Ohio State had a great defensive team during their run to the national championship this past year. Now, they must replace a lot of those great players.
Ohio State still has a lot of really good players who will be taking the spot of those players who are lost to the NFL. They will have an entirely new defensive line, a new starter at safety, and a new starter at cornerback. There will also be a new starter at linebacker, and potentially two new ones depending on what kind of defense Matt Patricia wants to run.
One of those starters at linebackers will likely be Arvell Reese. Reese is someone who the Buckeyes really like. More than that, he is someone that they have trusted to play a lot in the last couple of years. He's already shown that he has the potential to be an All-Big Ten performer.
Ohio State football player Arvell Reese has already shown promise as a potential starter
Reese played a lot last year. He recorded at tackle in 13 of the games that the Buckeyes played last year. He ended up with 43 of them, as well as a half-sack. While those numbers aren't huge, the linebacker showed a lot of athleticism in those games.
While it's not a guarantee that Reese will be one of the starters, he is one of the favorites to be starting next to Sonny Styles. With Patricia coming in as the new defensive coordinator, the Buckeyes could move back to a more traditional defense, particularly a 4-3 base.
That would mean that there are more opportunities available for linebackers to come in and start. Reese has shown that he is good enough to man one of those spots. He is going to be a really good player, and he's still young. He will be with the Buckeyes for a couple of more seasons.
Reese is someone that Ohio State Buckeye fans should be very excited about.
