The three biggest issues with the Ohio State football team

Coming off the loss to Oregon, the Ohio State football team has a lot of things they need to address.

2. The Ohio State football team must sack the quarterback more

Ryan Day was asked about the lack of sacks and if they were concerning him prior to the Marshall game. He claimed that he wasn't worried about it and that the sacks would come. He just wanted the defense to stay in a good position to limit yards and touchdowns.

Well, neither of those things happened on Saturday night. The Buckeyes failed to record a single sack. It didn't look like they were even close to getting one, either. They could not put any pressure on Dillon Gabriel. That's part of the reason why he was able to gain so many yards through the air.

There is a clear disconnect between what Jim Knowles wants to do up front and what Larry Johnson thinks is best. Whatever that disconnect is, it needs to be figured out immediately. I think Knowles needs to let Johnson put his guys on the defensive line in a position to get after the quarterback more.

J.T. Tuimoloau has three sacks through six games this season. Jack Sawyer has just 2.5. Those two ends were supposed to wreak havoc on quarterbacks this year. While Sawyer has done a good jot getting pressures in most of the games this year, it hasn't resulted in sacks.

If Ohio State can't put pressure on the quarterback, the secondary is going to continue to get torched. They showed on Saturday that they aren't good enough to play man-to-man for very long before someone gets wide-open. Zone is the only option right now, and teams can get chunks of yards in that coverage too.

The final thing that needs to be improved is stuff that comes from the head coach.
