The Ohio State football program still doesn't have an offensive coordinator. Since Brian Hartline announced his intention to leave the Buckeyes to become the head coach for USF, Ryan Day has had a vacant spot at OC. That was over a month ago, and no moves have been made.

Day has been focused on the Transfer Portal, and rightly so. The Ohio State Buckeyes have had around 30 players head for the portal this offseason. That is an extremely high number of players. Ross Bjork deserves a large amount of blame for that, but Day needs to find an OC.

It has been rumored that Day is looking to bring someone in from the NFL to help call plays and run the offense. Brian Daboll has been rumored to be one of those NFL guys he's interested in. Unfortunately, the Titans may have thrown a wrench into those plans.

Brian Daboll interviewing for head coaching jobs could hurt Ohio State

Daboll, who was fired by the New York Giants earlier this year, took an interview with the Titans for their head coaching vacancy. Obviously, he would prefer a head coaching job in the NFL to an offensive coordinator spot in college football. That would be a big issue for Ohio State.

Of course, Daboll could still get an offensive coordinator position in the NFL. That wouldn't require him to get on the recruiting trail and deal with NIL payments. Daboll hasn't coached in college football since 2017, when he was Alabama's offensive coordinator for one season under Nick Saban.

If Day had really wanted to bring in Daboll, he would have offered him a large sum of money right when Hartline left. Of course, Daboll still might have the preference to coach in the NFL and wanted to see what his options were from a head coaching standpoint.

Regardless, hiring an offensive coordinator needs to happen soon. That would help them add some more offensive players from the Transfer Portal, too.
