Ohio State football fans are happy to have the Buckeyes back on the field. Tuesday was the first day that the Ohio State Buckeyes were back on the field for the first time in 2026. Everyone on the roster is hoping to have a better finish to the 2026 season than they did in 2025.
The Buckeyes have a lot of turnover from last year's squad, as they lost 31 players to the Transfer Portal. Not just that, but Ohio State lost a ton of talent to the NFL. That includes some players in the secondary, such as Caleb Downs and Davison Igbinosun.
With those two gone, that gives Devin Sanchez an opportunity to step into a starting role. Sanchez was one of the most intriguing players on the roster coming into spring practice. Now, he was one of the standouts after the first morning with his strong play.
Ohio State cornerback Devin Sanchez was a key standout day one
Sanchez was one of the more impressive players during the first day of spring practice. Of course, the Buckeyes didn't practice with pads on, so things will change when the pads come on. When there is more hitting involved, things change, especially from a defensive perspective.
Still, Sanchez looks like he has put in a lot of work in the offseason. He looks bigger, more confident in his technique, and someone who is willing to work hard to earn that other outside corner position. He played sparingly as a true freshman, but saw more time at the end of the year.
With that experience under his belt and a full offseason, Sanchez is looking to become a true superstar at the corner spot. He was the top corner in the 2025 recruiting class, so he has all of the tools to be a great player. He just needs to put it all together.
It looks like he had a good start doing just that.
