The Ohio State football team took down Texas in the opening game of the season, which has been by far their toughest test so far. Now, they are undefeated and 3-0 as they head into their first bye week. They alre alsonow the number-one team in the country, which is an added bonus.
After making the College Football Playoff a year ago with two losses, they now have a shot to go undefeated. The toughest remaining games on their schedule are Illinois, Penn State, and Michigan. Two of those games are home, so they should be able to end the regular season with one loss at most.
If that's the case, the Ohio State Buckeyes should try everything they can to be the top overall seed in the College Football Playoff. That would give them some rest at the end of a grueling season, although rest seemed to do teams poorly in last year's 12-team CFP.

Winning all of their games would leave them as the no-doubt top seed. The Buckeyes still have a long way to go in order to make that happen, though. They clearly have an issue beating TTUN, and that game is on the road this season. They haven't been able to figure out that last game in the Ryan Day era.
The bottom line is that Ohio State shouldn't be afraid to get a bye for the CFP. They saw the disadvantages of it last season, but they will also have a much tougher schedule this season. They need to make sure they can win later in the season, and that requires rest.
Ohio State should feel great about its chances to win it all. They are well on their way to going back-to-back.
