The Ohio State football team must do these three things to beat Oregon
By Ryan Stano
3. The Ohio State football team needs to get 3+ sacks in this game
If you're going to nit-pick something that the Ohio State football team's defense didn't do well this season early on in the year, it's sack the quarterback. They haven't been able to get consistent pressure with their front four in order to bring the quarterback down, at least until the last couple of games.
In their last two games, the Buckeyes had four sacks in each game. What's significant about that is those were the two best teams that they have played so far this season. Both Michigan State and Iowa have decent offensive lines. Bringing the quarterback down against them was a welcome sight.
Oregon's offensive line is solid, but it's not spectacular. They are prone to giving up some sacks themselves. They have given up seven of them this season, which is tied for 46th-best in the country. Ohio State can certainly chase Gabriel around and give him some problems.
Creating negative plays is something Knowles and his defense is going to be tasked with doing early in this game. Ohio State is going to try and start quickly in this game and show that they won't be going away. Some sacks early would create momentum that woul dbe tough for Oregon to deal with.
At least three sacks is what this team should aim for. If they can do that, the defense should be in a good spot to stop the Ducks and help the Buckeyes win the game. If Ohio State can do all three of these things, they should have enough talent to win this game and stay undefeated.
