The Ohio State football team started Spring practice on Monday as they get ready to defend their national championship. It's later than they normally start Spring practice, but Ryan Day believes it's the right move coming off a season that saw the Buckeyes play 16 games.
Now that the players are actually on the field, it's interesting to see where some players are getting reps. Ryan Day harped on the fact that he wants his team to be versatile this season, just as they were last year. The Ohio State Buckeyes were able to win the national title because of how versatile some players were.
The offensive line had a lot of moving parts last season. Day wants to make sure they can be versatile up front again. That's not the only unit that he wants to see versatility from. In fact, he called out a scenario in which he wanted to see one particular player get snaps in the backfield. who isn't a running back.
Brandon Inniss might take some snaps at running back for the Ohio State football team
Day said that it wouldn't be surprising to see Brandon Inniss get some snaps at running back. The receiver will be seeing more time on the field this year now that Emeka Egbuka is gone, but Day also thinks he's versatile enough to see snaps at the running back spot.
Running back is a spot that the Buckeyes don't have a ton of experience at this season. TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins are headed to the NFL. They have CJ Donaldson, who comes in from West Virginia to likely be the starter. Adding Inniss into the fold a couple of times is intriguing.
Inniss has been waiting for his time to make an impact. It seems that time is now, and Day knows that. he clearly has been impressed with the work that Inniss has done in the short offseason. He comes in this Spring in shape, healthy, and ready to go.
