The Ohio State football program just finished the longest season in college football history. They had to play 16 games en route to winning a national championship. That's how long the old NFL schedule used to be, and it's far more games than anyone on the roster is used to playing.
Ohio State ended the season hoisting the trophy after taking down Notre Dame in the National Championship Game. Meanwhile, there are some teams that ended their season two months prior. They got two more months of rest heading into the 2025 college football season.
The Buckeyes now have a rest disadvantage next season. Ryan Day understands that matters heading into next season, even if a lot of the guys on the roster are now gone. Day has now made the decision to start Spring practice later for the 2025 season in order to make up for that.
The Ohio State football team will start Spring practice later in 2025
Day has made the decision to start Spring practice later than normal They will start it after Ohio State goes on Spring Break. Normally, they have a week of practice before Spring Break, a week off, and then they get back to practice. This year, they will just start it after.
That means that practice will start the week of March 17th if they decide to start it on a Monday. There is no word on when the Spring Game will be this year, but that obviously will be later this season as well. Last year, it was on April 15th. My guess is that it will be at least a week later than that.
Fans will have to wait longer to see Julian Sayin get the first-team reps in the Spring Game. He is projected to be the starting quarterback next season, although he will see competition from both true freshman Tavien St. Clair and Lincoln Kienholz.
This extra rest is a good thing for the Buckeyes. After an extended run in the 2024 season, any extra rest they can get is a good thing. The Buckeyes have a lot of starters to replace, so don't expect the practices to be any less intense than they normally are.
