The Ohio State football team is hosting the top safety in the transfer portal
By Ryan Stano
While the Ohio State football team is focused on facing Tennessee in a couple of weeks, they still have an eye on the transfer portal. They have to look at players in the portal because guys will make a decision possibly before the Buckeyes end their season.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have several needs that they need to address in the portal. The offensive line is definitely a unit that they need to improve by using the portal. That isn't the only unit that they need to address with as many starters as they will be using after this season.
One position the Buckeyes will be looking to upgrade is the safety spot. They will be losing Lathan Ransom as a starter this year. They like Malik Hartford, but apparently not enough to guarantee him a starting spot because the top safety in the transfer portal will be visiting Columbus next week.
Dillion Thieneman will visit the Ohio State football program
Purdue safety Dillon Thieneman will be visiting the Buckeyes next week. He spent two years with the Boilermakers before making the decision to enter the transfer portal once Ryan Walters was let go. He will have two years of eligibility left after starting for Purdue for two seasons.
I have a unique perspective on Thieneman. His brothers actually played at my high school. He decided to attend another high school instead, Westfield High School. That high school plays a level of much tougher competition. That has helped him be a really solid player.
Safety is not the primary concern for the Buckeyes. They should be targeting offensive linemen and defensive linemen instead of guys on the backend. I would understand getting some depth at safety, but other positions need depth more than safety.
If the Buckeyes are able to get Thieneman, he'd be a solid player. He has over 100 tackles in each of his first two seasons. He can certainly find the ball.
