The Ohio State football team has no one with any starting experience in the quarterback room. Only Lincoln Kienholz has a start for the Buckeyes. Kienholz started the Cotton Bowl a couple of years ago after Kyle McCord entered the transfer portal and left for Syracuse.

Kienholz is still fighting with Julian Sayin for the starting quarterback job while five-star freshman Tavien St. Clair continues to learn the offense. That looked like it was going to be the quarterback room heading into the 2025 season. Or so we thought.

It looks like Ryan Day was not totally comfortable with the options that he had in the room because he went out into the transfer portal to grab another quarterback. What's even more surprising is that he put him on scholarship. It's a commitment that has come out of nowhere.

The Ohio State football team goes into the transfer portal to grab Eli Brickhandler as inusrance against injury

The Ohio State Buckeyes have gotten a commitment from Eli Brickhandler from the transfer portal. Brickhandler spent last season with Houston Christian after spending the previous two seasons with North Carolina A&T. He will now be part of the Buckeyes in 2025.

In a strange move, Day decided to bring him to Columbus. It's not like he's got a bunch of starting experience, either. He completed less than 50% of his passes last season and had just four touchdown passes. Day must see something in him, though.

Brickhandler won't have any chance of winning the starting job in the Fall. It's still either Sayin or Kienholz's job once the season starts. Still, this is a very surprising commitment. Day has not mentioned anything about wanting to add a veteran quarterback.

It will be interesting to see what Day sees in Brickhandler. His explanation for adding him is something that Ohio State football fans will be eager to hear.
