The Ohio State football program had the most impressive victory of Week 1, taking down number-one-ranked Texas 14-7. They showed that they should have been the number-one team in the country when everyone voted in the preseason polls.

Winning the opening game was a great start to the season, and it certainly shows that they still have a great chance to win the national championship for the second straight year. It shows that despite the great amount of talent the Ohio State Buckeyes lost, they still have a lot left.

Not only does this win likely put the Buckeyes into the top-ranked position, but it also helps them with the College Football Playoff. Now, they have a massive amount of breathing room when it comes to making the CFP. They can afford a couple of hiccups and still play in the 12-team Playoff.

The Ohio State football team has a nice CFP buffer after beating Texas

Beating Texas gives them the best win in the country very early on in the season. They can use that win to prop up their resume in November when the CFP Committee starts to vote on the top 25. That win gives them a chance to still make the College Football Playoff, even if they lose two games.

There are three games left on the Buckeyes' schedule that they can still lose. Penn State will likely be the second-ranked team in the country when it faces Ohio State on November 1st. Illinois is a top-15 team that Ohio State will have to face on the road, as well.

Of course, the game that Ohio State is most likely to lose is the final game of the year against TTUN, a game that they have lost four straight seasons. A loss to them wouldn't end their season, but it would still make the fans mad. Still, a national title would be within reach, thanks to this opening win.
