No one does a better job of producing elite receivers than the Ohio State football program. They have produced multiple first-round picks and players who have become the best players on their NFL teams. No one does it better than Brian Hartline when it comes to coaching receivers.
It seems that the Buckeyes have recruited yet another stud receiver. After bringing in Jeremiah Smith a year ago, the Ohio State Buckeyes have another really good freshman playing this season. In a crowded room, freshman Quincy Porter has stuck out.
No receiver looked better during the Student Appreciation practice than Porter. He showed what makes the Buckeyes so excited to have him: his speed, ability to catch the ball, and his ability to separate from the defense. It seems Ohio State has another dude at receiver.
Quincy Porter could be the next great Ohio State receiver
Porter is showing enough talent this spring that he could challenge for playing time this year as a true freshman, even in a very talented and crowded receiver room. That's seriously impressive considering there are two other former five-star recruits in the room.
Part of the recruiting class of 2025, Porter came in as a four-star recruit. Hartline was excited to bring him in, but even for him to play this well this early is a surprise. Even if he doesn't see a lot of meaningful playing time this year, it's encouraging that he will get on the field sooner rather than later.
Smith and Carnell Tate are clearly the top two receivers. Brandon Inniss seems to be the third guy on the depth chart. Which receivers get playing time after that is up for grabs. Porter has a shot to earn some early playing time on a team defending a national championship.
What Hartline continues to do when it comes to recruiting is extremely impressive. He's not slowing down, either. He brings in another five-star recruit next year when Chris Henry Jr. joins the team.
