After spring practice, Ohio State had a lot of hype. The Buckeyes are the top-rated team in the country with all of the talent that they have. One of the freshmen who was the talk of the town coming out of spring practice was Legend Bey. Bey kept turning heads with everything he did.
Bey had a rough start to the Fall. He was suspended for the first two practices, which was not great. Once he did return, he struggled on the field, fumbling a handoff. However, Bey has turned it around and is now officially a Buckeye after shedding his black stripe.

The freshman running back became the eighth freshman to shed his black stripe this year. Bey is one of the most versatile players the Buckeyes have from the 2026 recruiting class. They won't just use him as a running back, either. Arthur Smith has decided to move him around and use him as a hybrid player.
At the running back spot, Bey has several players still ahead of him on the depth chart. Bo Jackson and Isaiah West are the clear top two backs. Ja'Kobi Jackson was able to play well enough this Fall to possibly be the third-string guy. That leaves Bey in a tough spot.
However, Bey is so fast and quick laterally that he will find himself on the field this Fall. The Ohio State Buckeyes need to have guys who can create yards in any way possible. Smith has been focused on getting the receivers in a spot to have more yards after the catch, and Bey can help with that.
Even though Bey was a high school quarterback, the Buckeyes feel good about his athletic ability translating quickly to the running back spot. Last season, Ohio State averaged 429.5 yards per game, which was only good enough for 26th in the country. Bey can help increase those numbers.
Ohio State continues to get elite young talent
The Buckeyes are able to replace their losses almost every year. Ryan Day and his coaching staff do a great job of recruiting in the high school ranks. He has also done a good job of utilizing the Transfer Portal, which is how the Buckeyes have been able to be so good in the last couple of years.
Bey is just one of the exciting freshmen who are going to be a big part of the team this year. Brock Boyd is another freshman who is going to see the field, despite the talent in front of him on the depth chart. That talent includes Chris Henry Jr., who is another freshman who will be putting up big stats.
Defensively, Jay Timmons could end up playing quite a few snaps at the nickelback spot. There is still an outside chance that he could start. Khary Wilder could be part of the rotation on the defensive line. All of these freshmen are going to help Ohio State quite a bit early in their careers.
