For years, the Ohio State football team has been known for guys who can get after the quarterback. The legacy of great defensive ends in the last decade or so is impressive. Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa, and Chase Young were all guys who could sack the quarterback and create havoc.

The Buckeyes thought they got the next version of that in two guys from the 2021 recruiting class. J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer were two of the top-rated recruits in the country. They were part of the best recruiting class in school history, which was the second-best class in the country.

Tuimoloau and Sawyer have had flashes of greatness. The Penn State game in 2022 was an all-time great performance from Tuimoloau. Sawyer had more pressures than anyone in the country heading into the Oregon game and has also looked good at various points in the last few years.

The Ohio State football team has been disappointed by the defensive line

Those two guys were expected to be the primary guys creating sacks for this team. So far this season, they have a combined 5.5 sacks in six games. Neither one of them brought down Dillon Gabriel for a sack on Saturday night. In fact, no member of the Ohio State Buckeyes did.

The lack of sacks from this team is extremely concerning. It doesn't fall on just these two defensive ends. No one on the defensive line is breaking through and getting sacks. Jim Knowles doesn't bring much pressure from linebackers and that probably needs to change.

The front four simply isn't getting the kind of pressure that they need to in order to create real havoc against good teams. Oregon was able to take advantage of that and torched the Buckeyes. Penn State will do the same thing in a few weeks if that doesn't get taken care of.
