Texas OL suffers potentially troubling injury just weeks ahead of Ohio State clash

Things might be easier for Ohio State's defensive line during their Week 2 showdown.

In Week 2, Ohio State has a chance to beat Texas for the third year in a row. In 2024, the Buckeyes took them down in the Cotton Bowl en route to a national title. Last year, Ohio State beat the Longhorns in the Shoe in the first game of the season. They have a chance to make Arch Manning sad again.

Last year, the Longhorns had a horrible injury on the offensive line just a couple of weeks before the season. Andrew Cojoe missed the entire season with a knee injury. Now, Texas may have had another offensive lineman suffer a serious injury just weeks ahead of a matchup with the Buckeyes.

The Ohio State Buckeyes might benefit from a massive Texas injury

According to Anwar Richardson of Orange Bloods, starting left tackle Trevor Goosby has suffered an injury. He left practice with a knee injury, although the severity of the injury is unknown at this time. Goosby is their starting left tackle and has appeared in 30 games, starting 15 of them.

Heading into this season, Goosby was a Phil Steele Preseason All-American. He is expected to be a massive part of what the Longhorns do with their offense. This is huge news for the Buckeyes, who will take on Texas in just a few weeks. If Goosby misses that game, Ohio State will have a much easier time rushing the passer.

Last season, Manning was sacked only once despite losing Cojoe. However, Manning did face increased pressure in his face and only threw for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Losing Goosby would likely provide a similar challenge for Manning.

Ohio State's defensive line could greatly benefit from Trevor Goosby missing time

If Goosby were to miss that Week 2 matchup, that would be a huge help for the Buckeyes. The Ohio State football program lost three starters on the defensive line from a year ago. They are expected to possibly start three transfers up front next to Kenyatta Jackson Jr.

Any backups that would be in place for Texas would make the lives of the Ohio State defensive linemen a lot easier. Being able to get at Manning from his blindside would be brutal for the Longhorns, who were only able to amass seven points against the Buckeyes last year.

Ohio State suffocated Texas from a defensive standpoint last year. With Matt Patricia back, the Buckeyes are going to try to do something similar. However, they should have more trust in their offense, as they could have the most explosive offense in the country.

If Goosby does miss the big-time Week 2 matchup, the Longhorns will likely shift Melvin Siani to the left tackle spot. Ohio State is going to attack that spot even if Goosby plays. If he is anything less than 100% heading into that game, Patricia is going to attack him.

Beating Texas for the third year in a row would give the Ohio State Buckeyes some much-needed cushion in what is a brutal 2026 schedule.
