Surprising Ohio State football transfer given 1,000-yard prediction

The Ohio State Buckeyes may have two 1,000-yard receivers during the 2026 College Football season, if Saturday Blitz's Nicholas Rome is a soothsayer anyway. The longtime former Death Valley Voice editor believes LSU Tigers transfer Kyle Parker could be Jeremiah Smith's WR co-star in the slot this season.

Per Rome, "If Kyle Parker can stay healthy in 2026, he has all the potential to be a 1,000+ yard receiver next to Jeremiah Smith. Parker has big play speed to stretch the field, while he'll continue to develop in the short to intermediate areas of the field."

"Kyle Parker developing into a key piece for this offense would allow the offense to continue fielding one of the best passing attacks in the Country. The Buckeyes have plenty of talented underclassmen, but allowing them to continue to develop rather than thrusting them right into major roles would be best for the program long term," Rome added.

Parker already lost his black stripe, coming along quickly in Arthur Smith's offense and within Ryan Day's locker room this offseason. He comes in with 31 receptions for 330 yards and four touchdowns, though it should be noted that seven catches, 68 yards, and one of those touchdowns came during a 38-35 Texas Bowl loss to the Houston Cougars with Michael Van Buren, and not typical starter Garrett Nussmeier. UH didn't have many opt-outs, but they faced an opponent they couldn't possibly scout for.

Game is game, though. And if Parker was able to look solid in a Joe Sloan-coached offense that ranked near the bottom in most major statistical offensive categories by the time of his firing in October, and then for a thrown-together interim coaching staff, there's no reason to think he won't thrive in a complete offense like Ohio State's.

Julian Sayin has chance to make surprising stars in 2025

With a mostly new receiving corps besides Jeremiah Smith and Brandon Inniss, there's a good chance for several stars to break out in the Buckeyes' offense. Freshmen Chris Henry Jr. and Jerquaden Guilford both have a chance to thrive in the offense early in their careers, just like transfers Parker and Devin McCuin.

Even the tight end room has chances for new faces to shine. Northwestern Wildcats transfer Hunter Welcing and sophomore Nate Roberts should both receive plenty of opportunities to make big-time plays in Arthur Smith's heavy personnel-centric offense.

We'll see how it shakes out. On paper, there are many different players who can contribute to the cause in Columbus this fall.
