The Ohio State football program has turned its attention to the 2027 recruiting class. Now that they have finished adding players from the Transfer Portal, they can look ahead at what the 2027 class has in store for them. They already have the top overall recruit committed in that class.
With it being the offseason, the Buckeyes can look at the recruits that they want to pursue in 2027. Usually, the Ohio State Buckeyes try to land as many five-star recruits as they can. That is the case again next season. Ryan Day is still prioritizing adding elite high school recruits over using the portal.
While Mark Pantoni has acknowledged a possible change in philosophy coming soon, the Buckeyes still want to bring in elite high school players. That is how they want to build depth across all positions. One elite recruit looks poised to flip and possibly join Ohio State.
Ohio State football program on the radar for five-star defensive lineman
Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster is no longer solid with Texas Tech, which is the program he committed to in October. According to an interview with ON3, Brewster is now considering other schools now that Texas Tech has lost its defensive line coach.
The Buckeyes had Larry Johnson visit Brewster recently, which could signal that they have a shot to land another five-star defensive lineman in the class. That would give them an elite defensive line for a few years, assuming DJ Jacobs and Brewster would both sign.
Signing Day in 2027 is a long way out, so things can still change. The Buckeyes have to prove they can keep Jacobs before anything else. NIL has changed everything over the last few years, so there's always a chance that another program comes in with a massive offer to steal Brewster.
Still, it's good to see Ohio State trying to get into the mix for an elite recruit.
