The Ohio State football team is preparing to take on Tennessee in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Fans are hoping that this isn't the last time they get to watch their Ohio State Buckeyes. If it is, the blame will squarely be put on Ryan Day.
Day has been taking a ton of heat since losing to TTUN for the fourth straight season. A lot of fans want him gone after another putrid performance in The Game. If he does end up getting fired, there are a lot of opinions on who should get a chance at the job.
Stephen A. Smith is perhaps the most influential voice at ESPN. His takes on the NBA are usually the most respectable ones he has, but that doesn't stop him from wading into the waters of college football from time to time. On Wednesday, he made the case for Deion Sanders to be the next coach of Ohio State.
ESPN analyst wants the Ohio State football program to hire Deion Sanders
According to Smith, Sanders would bring "sizzle" that Ryan Day doesn't have. He seems to think that would help in recruiting. Take a look at his full take on the situation below.
Of all of the takes about who should be the next coach at Ohio State, this one might be the worst. Sanders has proven to be a good head coach at the FBS level. Even so, the Buckeyes don't need "sizzle". The program already has plenty of cache. What they need is a winner.
Sanders would not be the right choice for Ohio State. He might be the right choice for some other programs, but he would not succeed in Columbus. He knows nothing of the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry, something fans are already mad at Day about.
If Day gets fired, the first choice should be Mike Vrabel. That is who the Buckeyes should focus all of their energy on if they can Day.
