Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day proved a lot of negative things about his football acumen during his team's 34-24 loss to the Miami Hurricanes at the Cotton Bowl Classic on New Year's Eve.

The Bucknuts need to know Day is going to do everything to make sure OSU's offense never looks that pitiful in a big game again. They need to know that Day's own reckless play-calling will be permanently retired. Legitimate offensive coordinators who have mastered the craft need to be in the seat instead.

Maybe Day doesn't want that, though. Maybe he doesn't want a fanbase who switched up on him just a year after winning a national championship. Perhaps he wants job stability.

If that's what he seeks, FanSided's Brendan Howe believes Day could make himself a head coaching candidate for the New York Giants' opening. To Howe's point, Big Blue fired Brian Daboll well past his expiration date.

Howe believes Day would have a strong foundation with quarterback Jaxson Dart in East Rutherford, New Jersey, if he were to leave a suddenly uncertain situation in the Buckeye State for one of the highest-profile job openings in the sport.

"In New York, Day would have time to implement his culture with a young quarterback who's already proven what he can be on the field. Yes, Dart has flaws – such as avoiding contact and getting down when he chooses to run the football – but finding a franchise QB is often the hardest task for any new head coach. The Giants seem to think they already have that," Howe wrote.

"With the lack of proven head coaches in this market, Day would instantly become one of the more intriguing fits."

Ryan Day is built for New York

Day has already weathered many storms in Columbus. CBus is no NYC, but in the modern age, news from any city spreads across the country in a snap. This is all to say, Day can handle the Big Apple after coaching for one of the most recognizable college brands for nearly a decade, now.

The Giants' expectations have been low for a while now. New Yorkers would have their questions about a college coach, since that's not exactly a college sports market outside of the St. John's Red Storm when they're good. Some would have the common sense to realize Day has been handling NFL egos for the past several years, many on NFL-caliber salaries.

The Giants can do a lot worse than Day. They have seemingly done so since Tom Coughlin skipped town.
