Ohio State was able to accomplish something they had waited four years to do, and that was finally beat Michigan in The Game. Head coach Ryan Day reportedly had to hire security around his house after losing to Michigan in 2024 for the fourth year in a row.
This year, instead of hiring security, he was able to celebrate and then put all of his focus into winning not just a Big Ten Championship, but another National Championship. Of course, the win comes with a huge sigh of relief for Day, and fans were able to see a bit of a different side of the Ohio State head coach.
After the game, Day has been speaking all week about what is ahead for the Buckeyes, but also sharing some moments from the win over Michigan. Day has quite the interaction with former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer that fans are going to love to hear.
Urban Meyer dared celebrate the Michigan win early on the sideline with Ryan Day
If there is one former head coach who truly understands the gravity and hatred of The Game, it is Urban Meyer. The former Buckeyes head coach certainly makes his way back to Columbus as much as he can, and he really isn't going to miss The Game.
Late into the matchup, when it was becoming clearer and clearer that Ohio State was going to walk away with the win, Meyer showed up on the sideline and gave Day a huge hug, and this was when there were still three minutes left on the clock.
Asked on his radio show what his favorite moment from the Michigan game was, Ryan Day laughed and said, “When the clock hit zero.”

He said Urban Meyer came up to him and hugged him with three minutes left on the clock, and he remarked to Meyer that Meyer would have thrown him…
When sharing this story, Day made the best joke, which is probably very true as well. Day said that when he was working under Meyer at Ohio State, if he had ever dared celebrate early like that, Meyer would have thrown him off the sideline.
With how focused a coach Meyer was, that is not a huge surprise. It is great to see current and former coaches continue to have a great relationship. It is greater, though, that Ohio State beat Michigan in The Game, in case anyone forgot.
