The Ohio State football program went on the greatest four-game run in modern college football history during the College Football Playoff. Beating Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame to win the national title was truly incredible. They played great in all four games.
It wasn't until the final game that the Buckeyes were able to actually clinch the national championship. During that final game against Notre Dame, the first half was a blowout, and it looked like the Ohio State Buckeyes were going to run away with it. Obviously, it got a little closer at the end.
However, that wasn't when Ryan Day knew Ohio State was going to win the title. He knew before that. Day was asked in a recent interview when he knew the Buckeyes were going to win it all. He gave a very relatable answer that a lot of Buckeye fans probably agree with.
Ryan Day reveals when he knew the Ohio State football team was going to win the title
In a recent interview, Day mentioned that he knew the Buckeyes were going to win the national championship during the Cotton Bowl. Day revealed that when that ball bounced right up into Jack Sawyer's hands during that sack/fumble return for a touchdown, he knew it was their time.
It was one of the most iconic plays in Ohio State football history. Day knew that once that bounce went their way, it was over. It was like Ohio State was destined to win the title. It's hard to disagree with him. When something like that happens, it's almost like it was meant to be.
Day was right. The Buckeyes would go on to beat Notre Dame and claim the title. That play is the one that everyone is going to point to, though. Just like Ezekiel Elliott's run against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl in the game before the national championship, this play is going to be the most memorable from this run.
It's cool to see that Day had an exact moment in time when he knew his team was the best in the country.
