Over the last couple of seasons, programs across the country have decided to eliminate their Spring Game. They seem to be afraid of guys getting hurt, which is a bummer for the fans. The Ohio State football program has gone the other way. They continue to have a game every April.

Last year, Ryan Day mentioned it was going to be more of a showcase than a game. It played out like more of a game, but there was limited tackling. With how many new players the Ohio State Buckeyes have on the roster, Day has decided that things will be structured a little differently.

The Buckeyes will not only have a Spring Game, but it will look like a real game. Some programs just do two-hand touch or THUD. Day has decided that with so many new guys on the roster, he wants his team to tackle throughout the entirety of the game on Saturday.

Ohio State football team will be tackling throughout the Spring Game

While previewing the Spring Game, Day let everyone know that the Buckeyes will have a full game that will include tackling throughout the entirety of it.

"Yeah, we'll be doing a game. There will probably be a drive or two that will be THUD, but we'll be tackling and playing a full game. So, we're excited about that. I think it's a great opportunity because of our numbers to let guys get out there and play in front of a good crowd."

Day made it clear that the depth that the team has now makes it realistic for them to play an entire game with tackling included. He wants to make sure that the new guys are able to learn what it feels like to play a game in the Shoe in front of a great crowd.

Fans are going to get a great look at the new roster with this format. The weather looks a bit dicey right now, but things can change between now and then. It will be a great time to see the 2026 team as they prepare to chase another title.
