The Ohio State football team has had a few weeks to look for an offensive coordinator. Brian Hartline accepted the head coaching job at USF about a month ago. Despite that timeline, the Ohio State Buckeyes do not have an offensive coordinator hired.
Ryan Day has to find a coordinator who can also call plays for the Buckeyes. It's pretty clear that Day cannot call plays as he did in the Cotton Bowl. He needs someone whom he can trust so he can keep being a CEO-type of head coach. That's what he was in 2024 when they won the national championship.
With most of the collegiate options gone, Day might have to go to the NFL ranks in order to get his next OC. There is even an OC in the NFL right now who used to call plays in the SEC who would be perfect for the Buckeyes. That is Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
The Ohio State football team should consider Todd Monken for their open OC spot
Monken and the rest of the Ravens coaching staff are in danger of being fired after the team lost to the Steelers on Sunday night. After almost two decades of John Harbaugh leading the team, it might be time for them to part ways with him. That would give Monken a chance to come to Columbus.
It's unlikely that Monken would leave an offensive coordinator position in the NFL for one in college. If Day is going to have a shot to bring him in, the Ravens need to clean house. Still, Monken would make a great option if that happens. He called plays for the Georgia Bulldogs when they won back-to-back titles, as well as helping Lamar Jackson win an MVP.
Day is going to have to make a hire soon if he wants to land any good offensive players in the Transfer Portal. They need someone that players will be happy with calling plays.
