The Ohio State football program has the biggest season opener in program history in just a couple of weeks. With that being the case, the Buckeyes should be wrapping up some positional battles within the team. Day has only revealed two winners of those battles so far.

On Monday morning, he revealed that Julian Sayin will be the starting quarterback this season. That was the most important battle that the Ohio State Buckeyes had in training camp. There is still a battle on the offensive line, although he let everyone know Austin Siereveld will be the starting left tackle.

Day was asked about who the other starters will be on the offensive line, at running back, safety, and punter. He was very coy with the media, not giving an answer on any one of those battles. Day continues to play things close to the chest, just a couple of weeks before the season starts.

Ryan Day refuses to give updates on Ohio State football battles

At running back, James Peoples and C.J. Donaldson are the two players battling for the starting job. Day didn't give an update on that, except to say that three running backs will likely get snaps this season. There was no indication of who might start, though James Peoples is the favorite.

On the offensive line, there are still questions of who will start at right guard and right tackle. Right now, it looks like Tegra Tshabola will be the right guard, while Phillip Daniels is the right tackle. Again, Day made no mention of anything being settled, saying he feels good about six of seven guys up front.

At safety, the same answer was given. Jaylen McClain and Malik Hartford are fighting for the safety spot opposite of Caleb Downs. Day refused to name a starter, only asserting that both will play. Matt Patricia said more of the same once he spoke to the media, as well.

The starting punting job has not been decided, either. Punting was by far the biggest issue the Buckeyes had last season. Still, Joe McGuire is getting a chance to keep his job. Nick McLarty finally lost his black stripe, so it remains to be seen who will be the starter there.

Day doesn't want to give Texas any sort of edge by releasing the starters to the public. Sayin was the big one, and his winning the job is no surprise. Day also did not want to comment on the findings the NCAA had on TTUN. It was probably smart to just move on.
