The Ohio State football program is clearly the best team in the country. They are still undefeated and the top-ranked team in the country with the best defense in the nation. Offensively, the Buckeyes are led by perhaps the best player in college football, Jeremiah Smith.
Smith finished last season as the best player in the country after going on an incredible run during the College Football Playoff. He was the one who sealed the national championship with his catch on third-and-long against Notre Dame. Smith was one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy heading into this year.
With the Ohio State Buckeyes in a bye week, they should start looking at launching some Heisman campaigns. Smith should be one they launch, but Julian Sayin should also get one. One prominent college football analyst is sending a warning to the rest of college football about him.
Todd McShay doesn't believe that Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith doesn't belong in the Heisman Trophy conversation
While speaking on The McShay Show, McShay gave a warning that should terrify the rest of college football, talking about how good Sayin has been already, and he's still not close to the kind of player he will be at the end of the season.
"Consider this your warning, and I didn't know this until yesterday, on Sunday. I didn't know until I sat down and watched the tape. Buy Julian Sayin stock now. This is my PSA."
McShay believes that Ohio State's offense is only going to get scarier in the next few weeks when he really finds out what he's doing.
"Yes, he's still inexperienced. It's still not a complete product at this point. But it is a stock that is ascending...I'm telling you, Julian Sayin is still growing. It was a slow up the hill, cautious, let's make sure we have our footing. And then the last couple of weeks, it has gone from a slow jog to a borderline sprint in terms of his ascent."
Sayin has finally had the opportunity to sling it around in the last couple of weeks, something he wasn't able to do early on in the year. Now, he has been fully unleashed, culminating in a 393-yard, four-touchdown performance against the Badgers.
If Sayin continues to sling it at this rate, and with how good the defense has been, the Buckeyes have an excellent shot to become the first 16-0 team in college football history.
