Remembering the mascot fiasco the last time Ohio State hosted Ohio

Both the Buckeyes and the Bobcats are hoping to avoid the same kind of nonsense that happened the last time these two teams met.

The Ohio State football program likes to pay to bring in other teams from the state of Ohio for a non-conference showdown. They like keeping those programs afloat by handing them some cash to help with their athletic departments. That's what they are doing with Ohio this weekend.

After destroying Grambling State last weekend 70-0, the Ohio State Buckeyes will welcome the Bobcats of Ohio to the Shoe. This is the first time that Ohio has visited the Shoe since 2010. The Buckeyes took down the Bobcats 43-7 in a game that was never close.

While it was a big win for Ohio State early in the season, that's not what that game was remembered for. In fact, it's remembered most today for something that didn't have anything to do with football. It's remembered for Ohio's mascot terrorizing Brutus prior to the game.

The Ohio State football program is hoping to avoid another mascot snafu vs. Ohio

Before the game started, Rufus the Bobcat decided to attack Brutus for no reason. He decided to try to fight him as the team came onto the field, and shortly thereafter, as well. You can see below just how unhinged the student is who is wearing the Rufus costume.

Rufus was kicked out of the game and off the field. The student who was in the Rufus costume was not allowed back with the football program, and they found a new mascot. It was one of the most bizarre events that has ever happened in an Ohio State football game.

That event was 15 years ago, and Ohio State hasn't welcomed them back to Columbus since. Enough time has passed that they feel comfortable bringing the Bobcats back to the Shoe. It's clear that they feel confident that nothing close to that will happen again on Saturday night.

If things are just focused on football, that will be the best thing that can happen for this game. It should be a big-time win for the Buckeyes, as well.
