The Ohio State football team has started fall camp now that August has arrived. As they start to get the team ready for Week 1 against the Longhorns, they have to decide who the starting quarterback is going to be. Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz are vying for that top spot.
It is widely assumed that Sayin will end up winning the job. He's a former five-star recruit who has the purest talent of any quarterback on Ohio State's roster. Kienholz has had his moments, but it seems to be Sayin's job to lose at this point. He still has to go out and take it with some force, though.
Through two days of practice, it doesn't look like either quarterback has taken it with force up to this point. In fact, there are some reports coming out after the second day of practice that might concern fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Ohio State football team has some poor QB play in day two of camp
According to reports coming out of camp, neither Sayin nor Kienholz looked good on the second day of practice. That might mean good things for the defense, but the quarterbacks were expected to play better at this point. Of course, it's still very early in Fall camp.
The Buckeyes have a month before they decide who the starting quarterback needs to be against Texas. As long as the QBs shape up their play in the next three weeks, they will feel fine about whoever they pick. It would still be a shock if Kienholz were somehow able to jump Sayin, though.
If Ryan Day hasn't named a starting quarterback in a couple of weeks, then it's time for fans to start to panic a little bit. Day didn't name a starting quarterback back in the 2023 season until Week 2, when he officially named Kyle McCord as the starter for the rest of the year.
Under no circumstances should Day make that mistake again this season. He needs to name a guy early so that the entire team can rally behind him before the Longhorns come to town.
