Make it make sense! The Ohio State Buckeyes have had every bit the blue-chipper committed to them since very late December in one DJ Jacobs. The Georgia legacy and Blessed Trinity standout from Roswell had been the consensus No. 1 player in the 2027 recruiting class for quite a while now. Although he still retained his five-star status, why did Rivals knock him down all the way to ... No. 12?
Had he committed to Georgia, Miami, or even Notre Dame, would Jacobs have dropped 11 spots?

According to the 247Sports Composite, Jacobs is the No. 1 player from Georgia, the No. 1 edge rusher in his class, and the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle. In fact, 247Sports still has him as its top overall prospect... What gives? He might not play against the highest level of competition in the Georgia catholic high school ranks, but it should not have him dropping this badly.
The fact Miami has been all about trying to flip him for weeks now shows how coveted Jacobs truly is.
Ohio State commit DJ Jacobs' latest Rivals300 rankings makes no sense
This is one of those situations where a recruiting entity is making a mountain out of a molehill. How many games has Jacobs played since he committed to the Buckeyes almost four months ago? Exactly... While recruiting evaluators have within their rights to arbitrarily reshuffle their own decks from time to time, it is kind of a worthless endeavor to do it when there are no games being played.
If level of comp does become an issue for Jacobs during his senior season at Blessed Trinity, then so be it. After all, he is the type of player who could flip to anyone at any given time. It is the nature of the beast in the wonderful world of NIL. Other teams may want to try and flip him besides Miami. It is also important to know that his younger brother Dawson is a four-star recruit in the 2028 recruiting class...
While they might not be a package deal to come play together in college, how Dawson Jacobs' 2028 recruitment goes could in a way impact how DJ Jacobs' 2027 recruitment ultimately shakes out. Regardless, Ryan Day has made it a point to land pretty much whoever he wants out of the high school ranks since taking over at Ohio State. Jacobs getting docked a bit should not hurt his stock.
At this time, we all do need to keep a close eye on how good Jacobs looks during his senior season.
