Will Howard impresses at Pro Day throwing to former Ohio State football players
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program held its annual Pro Day for prospects getting ready to enter the NFL Draft on Wednesday. While there weren't a ton of players working out this year, there were still guys who helped their stock, most notably Mike Hall who didn't do much at the Combine because of an injury.
Two current Ohio State quarterbacks were tapped to throw to pass-catchers during the Pro Day. Will Howard and Devin Brown both threw passes. Those are the two quarterbacks vying for the starting job this Fall, although it's presumed that Howard will get the nod.
Howard looked good throwing passes. His deep passes were on point too, showing off his arm strength. Take a look at some of the passes he threw in the clip below.
Howard is thought to be an upgrade from Kyle McCord for a number of reasons and this video confirms some of those thoughts. Howard was on time with his throws and showed off his touch to go along with that arm strength on deeper passes.
The Buckeyes are hoping that he can have more poise at the quarterback position than McCord did last season. I still maintain that McCord wasn't bad, he was just okay. Howard at least raises that ceiling to "good" which is all this team needs with the reset of the talent around him.
It seems we know a little bit more about who might be blocking for him next year. We'll find out more as the Spring practices continue along. From what we've seen in this video, and from his tape at Kansas State, the Buckeyes should be happy with Howard's play.
Most Ohio State football fans will see him throw for the first time in a Buckeye uniform in about three weeks when he takes the field for the Spring Game.
