Why does the Ohio State football team still have all five quarterbacks?
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team didn't add anyone in the Spring transfer portal window. There was a thought that they could possibly have added an offensive lineman, specifically a tackle. Instead, the Buckeyes decided to stand pat and keep the offensive line as it is.
Not only did the Buckeyes not add anyone, but they didn't lose a ton of players into the portal. Just six Buckeyes decided to leave in the Spring window. None of the players were starters either. Ohio State wasn't expected to lose any starters, but they were expected to lose some players from one position in particular.
It was thought that at least one of the five quarterbacks that the Buckeyes have on the roster was going to transfer. Obviously, Will Howard wasn't going to be one of them since he just transferred in. It was thought that Devin Brown or Lincoln Kienholz was going to be the guy to leave.
Neither Brown nor Kienholz has the inside track for the starting job this season, nor do they next season. With Air Noland and Julian Sayin coming in as freshmen this year and Tavien St. Clair coming in next year, Brown and Kienholz are the odd men out.
Instead, the Ohio State football team has all five quarterbacks still on the roster. Why is that? The main reason is that Brown and Kienholz both think they can still won the job both this season and next season. Their self-confidence means that Ohio State has a very full QB room.
I'm surprised that neither Brown nor Kienholz decided to leave the Buckeyes for somewhere else that they can truly compete for the starting job this season. Ohio State has depth at quarterback. That's never a bad thing. It's just a surprising development for the team this Fall.
