Where will Ohio State football be ranked to start 2024?
By Ryan Stano
Despite losing the final two games of 2023, the Ohio State football program has some incredible momentum surrounding it right now. The Buckeyes are bringing back almost their entire defense next season (while adding a great player to the secondary) and bringing in more firepower on offense.
All of that transfer portal and recruiting work makes this team look really good on paper. How good will the polls think they are though? Looking ahead to 2024, Ohio State adds new conference foes to their schedule and one of them is one of the best teams in the country.
Looking ahead to next year, I think Ohio State will be ranked either two or three in the country to start the season. The only two teams that have a shot to be ahead of them are Oregon and Georgia. Oregon brings back a loaded team but will have a new quarterback. Georgia brings back Carson Beck but loses their best offensive player in Brock Bowers.
Adding Will Howard, Seth McLaughlin, and Quinshon Judkins to the offense should make this Ohio State football team more explosive. They lacked explosive plays on offense despite having the best receiver in college football. The Buckeyes are hoping a change in quarterback can help with that.
Even though I think TTUN will be rated lower than Ohio State, I don't think the Buckeyes should be considered favorites over them. They lose a lot on offense and potentially will lose Jim Harbaugh, but they are the defending national champs. I hate them, but they still deserve respect. Until Ryan Day proves he can beat them, TTUn should be favored.
The talent is all there for the Buckeyes to make a deep run. It's now up to the players and coaches to get the job done in a pivotal 2024 season.
