Three winners and three losers from the Ohio State football Spring Game
By Ryan Stano
2. Carson Hinzman
Let me preface this by saying that I think Carson Hinzman should be the starter at right guard. Guard is his natural position and he has more experience than Luke Montgomery. It was a welcome surprise to see him get the first-team reps over Montgomery during the Spring Game.
Unfortunately, Hinzman didn't perform that well while he was out there. He got absolutely destroyed by a Jack Sawyer bull-rush that resulted in a sack. He can't get flattened like that once the games are real and there are some things actually at stake.
Hinzman wasn't terrible on Saturday, but he was shaky. He got pushed back in the pocket a few times and that made it harder for Will Howard to find open guys. It wasn't every pass play that this happened, but it was enough to be concerning at this point in the Spring.
Josh Fryar wasn't very good at right tackle last season. His Spring Game wasn't super impressive either, but Day seems to like the improvement he's made. He's going to start unless he really stinks it up in the Fall. Hinzman needs to make sure he's a part of those starting conversations too.
Our final loser from the Spring Game is a guy who is projected to start on the offense but got hurt during the game.
