3. The Ohio State football team's defense lived up to the billing

One thing that wasn't disputed coming into the 2024 season is that the Ohio State football team has one of the best defenses in the country. The roster certainly showcases that. Adding a superstar safety in Caleb Downs only makes this defense better.

Ohio State only allowed six points in this game and only three points after Akron scored in the first quarter. In fact, the Buckeyes shut out the Zips in the second half. They actually outscored Akron themselves 14-6 after recording a fumble return for a touchdown and a pick-six.

No matter what happens with the offense, the defense looks like it's that elite unit we were expecting. Denzel Burke got a pick and showed that he's still an elite cornerback. J.T. Tuimoloau had 1.5 sacks himself. The team had five of them, which is a great sign. Not only can the defend the pass, but they can rush the passer.

It's going to be hard for teams to go all the way down the field and score a touchdown. This defense is too good to let teams methodically drive down the field and score six points. Other teams will likely have to score by utilizing chunk plays and explosive shots in play-action.

The defense is going to keep the Buckeyes in games no matter who they are facing this year. Whether is lowly Marshall or TTUN, the defense is going to be able to be counted on. That's certainly something to love as this season continues.
