Three defensive players who should see offensive snaps for Ohio State football
By Ryan Stano
3. Lorenzo Styles
The brother of star safety now-turned-linebacker Sonny Styles, Lorenzo Styles transferred into the program last season to join his brother. He played at Notre Dame for his first two seasons and actually played wide receiver for the team. Styles actually had 684 receiving yards and two touchdowns over those two seasons.
Styles is now a cornerback for the Buckeyes and redshirted last season. With how loaded the secondary is again this year with everyone coming back, he likely won't see much playing time this season either. He will be forced to warm the bench for at least another year.
Day also mentioned in his press conference that he wants to build depth at receiver. Using Styles as an occasional receiver wouldn't be the worst idea if they had to do it. I'm just not sure what kind of depth Day thinks they need to have. They have four and five-star kids up and down that room.
Styles clearly has the skills to play on offense if he needs to. The Buckeyes have been de-railed by injuries at a specific position at once. That happened at the running back position a couple of years ago. If that happens again at receiver, he would be an option to turn to in an emergency.
The Ohio State football team could use any of these players on offense. A couple of them could end up being real playmakers in the right spots.
