Three defensive players who should see offensive snaps for Ohio State football

With the news that Caleb Downs might see some snaps on offense, we take a look at some other Ohio State football players on defense who should as well.

2. Jack Sawyer

Another big being on the defensive line, Jack Sawyer would be another guy to use at tight end. Ohio State got him in the same 2021 class that they got Tuimoloau in. Sawyer has also done a good job of rushing the passer. His sack numbers are actually a bit better than Tuimoloau's.

Last season, he had 6.5 sacks to go along with two forced fumbles. While they experimented with moving him to the "Jack" position in 2022, he moved back to his natural defensive end position and did much better. His size and strength are what make him so good at pushing the pocket.

That 6'5 frame is what would make him such a good tight end. He can create space because of his sheer size and I think he would actually be a good blocker in goal-line packages. The Buckeyes could use a tight end of his size in tight, just like they could with his defensive line teammate.

Would they ever give Sawyer some packages? Possibly. He's been sighted at practice catching some balls before. Sawyer is also extremely athletic. Chip Kelly is someone who likes to get tricky when it comes to personnel decisions on offense. I wouldn't put it past him to do something like this.

Ohio State doesn't have a starter at tight end that is established now that Cade Stover is gone. They could experiment a bit and see if one of these defensive ends could be used in certain situations. The last player on his list actually used to play on offense at a different school.
