Three bold predictions for Ohio State football vs. Western Michigan
By Ryan Stano
3. The Ohio State football team will have a +4 turnover margin
One of the things that Ryan Day wants the Buckeyes to do this season is to take care of the ball. That means not turning it over. No fumbles and no interceptions. The only time Ohio State came close to doing that was a bizarre play in which Will Howard threw the ball wildly behind him. TreVeyon Henderson fell on it.
At the end of the game, Ohio State ended up with a fumble recovery and two interceptions on defense. The offense didn't turn the ball over at all. That game them a +3 turnover margin for the game. That's a great margin that every team would love to have every game.
I think that the Ohio State Buckeyes do even better this week. I think they increase their turnover margin by one and finish +4. Western Michigan will be forced to take chances in this game because they will be trailing most of the game. When that happens, turnovers occur.
Howard and the offense should be able to take care of the ball again this week as well. They will be able to be mistake-free in this game and do pretty much whatever they want on that side of the ball. It would be a surprise if they struggled on offense this week early in the game.
This is another game for the Buckeyes to get more comfortable on offense and figure out who the big-time players are going to be this season. It seems like Jeremiah Smith is going to be one of those guys. Who else will step up?
