The worst-case scenario finish for this version of the Ohio State football team
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has done a lot to load up for a national championship run this season. A lot of the moves they made in the transfer portal and with the coaching staff are in response to trying to win it all this season. There's a lot of talent up and down this roster.
So we know their ceiling is a national championship team, and that's very realistic. This team doesn't have a significant weakness. If they play to their full capability, they will win it all. But what happens if they don't? What is the floor for this very talented team?
In my opinion, I believe this team is still a College Football Playoff team even in the worst-case scenario. I think this team's worst possible record is 10-2 in the regular season. With a 12-team Playoff in effect this year, that should still be enough to get them in.
Oregon and Penn State are the two games that they will have to worry about the most since both are on the road. If Michigan hadn't have been drained of their defensive talent and their coaching staff, I'd be much more worried about that game. Still, I don't see them losing three games.
The worst-case scenario for this Ohio State football team is to lose two of those three matchups during the season. This team is too talented to lose all three. So if they do make the CFP at 10-2, I think their worst-case scenario is then losing in the first round.
Do I think this is a likely scenario for how this season ends up? No. I think the Buckeyes are one of the best teams in the country. I truly believe that they can make the national championship this season. They are a great roster.
