The Ohio State football team has had a few battles for starting spots this offseason. They had a battle for quarterback that wasn't a true battle. Will Howard won that pretty quickly. The starting punter was revealed last week after a battle among three players was sorted out.

Two final starters have been named for the Buckeyes. These were the final two starting positions that needed to be figured out. We're talking about the right guard spot and the Will linebacker spot. Ryan Day had a leader for the linebacker spot last week but didn't name a starter until Tuesday.

Day announced that Sonny Styles has won the battle over C.J. Hicks for that starting spot. That means that Hicks and Cody Simon will be the two starting linebackers this season for the Ohio State Buckeyes. This isn't a surprise. Hicks will see a lot of snaps this season too though so it's not like he won't be playing.

The winner at right guard is something that I was much more interested in. That's because the offensive line was so bad last season. It was the worst unit on the field. For a while, Carson Hinzman was the favorite to win the job. He was the starter when the Spring Game happened.

Hinzman, after being the starting center for the Buckeyes last seasn, will not be a starter this season. He lost the right guard battle to Tegra Tshabola. Tshbola made a huge push in Fall camp to win the job and will be the last piece of an offensive line that should be improved over a year ago.

It's very interesting that Hinzman goes from being a starter last season as a freshman at a spot that isn't his natural position to now riding the bench. I wonder if there is any lasting residuals from the podcast that was released that saw him suspended from the Cotton Bowl?

Either way, Tshbola better live up to the billing. Otherwise, Ohio State football fans will be clamoring for Hinzman to be back on the field.
