The Ohio State football team shut out Western Michigan and showed why they are the best unit in the country.

The Ohio State football team was supposed to have the best defense in the country. On paper, they had the best roster on that side of the ball. Adding Caleb Downs only made them more dangerous. He might already be the best safety in the country as a sophomore.

Against Akron, they started a bit slowly. They actually allowed the Zips to take a 3-0 lead, which was surprising. After that, they only allowed three more points the rest of the game as the Buckeyes won 52-6. It was clear that the defense was annoyed that they allowed any points at all.

The defense took it personally against Western Michigan. After the Broncos put a scare into Wisconsin last week, they didn't score a single point against the Buckeyes. Ohio State shut them out 56-0, recording the first shutout since 2019. They were simply dominant.

Not only did the Buckeyes not allow a single point, but they kept Western Michigan from gaining over 100 yards of total offense. They held the Broncos to just 99 total yards. That's crazy! With all of the passing and spread offenses that there are in college football, holding a team under 100 total offense is nuts.

This defense showed that they are the real deal. In two games, they have allowed a total of six points. While they didn't quite get the four turnovers I predicted, they still have the opportunity to take the ball away. That was perhaps the only thing that the defense did wrong today. They didn't force any turnovers.

I fully expect a similar effort from the defense in Week 4 when they take on Marshall. For now, they get a bye week to rest a little bit early in the season. The first two weeks have shown that the Buckeyes are an elite team that is capable of winning it all.
