The Ohio State football team is changing its pregame routine
By Ryan Stano
There are very few programs in America with as much tradition as the Ohio State football program. Almost everything they do is entrenched in tradition. From dotting the I to the Skull Session, there are a lot of traditions that make the Buckeyes great. It's what makes them who they are.
One of those traditions in the last few years has been staying at the Blackwell Inn on campus the night before home games. The Buckeyes have been doing that for quite a while. The Blackwell is very close to the Shoe and allows players to focus more before heading to the stadium.
On his weekly radio show on 97.1 the Fan, Ryan Day said that the team will no longer be staying in the Blackwell before home games. Instead, they will be staying downtown the night before home games. That's not the only pregame routine that Day is changing this year either.
Ohio State football team to stay downtown before home games
The Ohio State Buckeyes will no longer wear suits before entering the stadium either. Day has decided to let the players wear sweats instead. So now they will be staying downtown and entering the Shoe in more comfortable clothes this season.
While these changes are minor, they are noteworthy. Anything that changes the routine of these guys is noteworthy. It will require these guys to get used to. It's unclear why Day made these changes or if he consulted the team in making these decisions, but the decisions have been made.
If Day thinks this will help him win big games at the end of the year, then I'm all for it. Whatever he needs to do to make sure that he beats Michigan and gets into the College Football Playoff is fine with me. I just hope he's got some scheme changes for The Game as well.
