The Ohio State football team is going to have one of the best defenses in the country. One stud isn't getting talked about as much as he should be.

The Ohio State football team is going to be one of the fiercest defenses to play against in the country this season. They bring back a ton of talent from last season and have even added more. There's an argument to be made that they are the best defense in the country.

A lot of the talk has been about adding Caleb Downs to the secondary. Bringing the stud from Alabama into Columbus allowed the Buckeyes to move Sonny Styles to linebacker. The whole defense will be better because of Downs' arrival on the Ohio State football team.

His addition has overshadowed some of the other great players that the Buckeyes have on defense already. One of those players is safety Lathan Ransom. Ransom is one of the best returning players that Ohio State will have this season. He's an excellent safety.

Ransom didn't have the best season last year because of injuries. He only played eight games last season because of a Lisfranc injury. It was a non-contact injury against Wisconsin. Now that he's fully recovered from that, he's ready to prove just how good of a player he is.

I wouldn't expect him to have the 79 tackles that he did in 2022. Safeties won't need to make that many tackles this year. His coverage was excellent last season. Per PFF, he only allowed six catches last season and none of them were for touchdowns. That's out of 269 coverage snaps.

The Buckeyes are going to need Ransom to get back to his elite status. This is going to be a team led by the defense again this season, and solid play from the safeties is going to be paramount for them to reach the postseason success that they are searching for.

Expect Ransom to bounce back in a big way this season. Now that he's healthy, he's going to be a stud once again.
