Ohio State Women's basketball upsets Caitlin Clark and second-ranked Iowa
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State Women's basketball team was taking on second-ranked Iowa and the best player in the country in Caitlin Clark. The Buckeyes knew they needed to limit Clark as best as they could in order to get the upset win. They were able to get the job done late in the game.
Ohio State won in overtime 100-92 after Cotie McMahon carried the Buckeyes down the stretch. She finished with 33 points and 12 rebounds and was the main source of offense for the Ohio State Women's basketball team in the fourth quarter and in overtime. It ended up being a pretty good weekend for Ohio State basketball.
Clark is still the best player in the country for a reason. She had 45 points in this game and was clearly Iowa's main source of offense. The way they used her by running around screens to get other people free was impressive as well. Yet, it wasn't enough to beat the Buckeyes.
With this win the Buckeyes are now going to be in a tie for first in the Big Ten. They are currently tied with Iowa atop the conference, as well as with IU. Beating the number two team in the country is also a good way to improve your spot in the polls. I would expect their ranking to rise.
Ohio State was ranked 18th prior to this game. With this win, they might be able to get back into the top ten. It's a win that comes in front of a record-setting crowd. It was the biggest crowd in Ohio State Women's basketball history. There was a crowd of almost 19,000 in the Schott, including myself.
It was a great atmosphere throughout the entire game. Hopefully, the Buckeyes can use the momentum of this win to keep playing their best ball. They can't peak yet, so they have to be playing their best ball in March.
