The Ohio State football team has had a line come out for their opener against the Akron Zips. The line is absurdly high.

The Ohio State football team has one of the best teams in the country for next season. Their entire roster is loaded up for a national championship run. There are only a couple of teams on their schedule can stop them from going undefeated in the regular season.

Akron is not one of them. The Buckeyes take on the Zips in the opening game of the season. It's the first time that these two squads have faced off since 2021. If you remember, Kyle McCord actually started that game while C.J. Stroud sat out with a shoulder injury.

The Ohio State football team beat Akron 59-7 at the Shoe. It was a massive blowout between two teams of very different talent levels. The same thing is set for August 31st of this year. Apparently, bookmakers think that the Buckeyes are going to win by a massive amount again.

Ohio State opened as a 50.5-point favorite over the Zips according to DraftKings. That's a huge spread for a team that will have its third starting quarterback in as many years. Still, the depth of the Buckeyes is much greater than what Akron has. That's why this line was set as high as it is.

Sitting here right now, I'm not sure the Buckeyes cover that spread. They could win by 49 points and still not cover. They have some kinks on offense to work out during the opener before they can win by that many points. I might change my mind by the time the Fall rolls around.

The Buckeyes will likely have similar lines for all of their non-conference opponents. They don't have that marquee non-conference opponent this season for the first time in a really long time. Ohio State is ready to level the competition before the Big Ten portion of their schedule starts.
