The Ohio State football team beat down Akron 52-6 in Week 1 and didn't have too many issues doing that. The Buckeyes looked good on defense throughout the entire game while the offense took a little bit to get going. Either way, it was a strong win for the first game of the year.

Ohio State was able to get that big win without two starters playing in that game. Linebacker Cody Simon missed the game and that forced Sonny Styles to be defensive signal-caller in his first game as a linebacker. He did a pretty good job of that though.

The Buckeyes also were without their best offensive lineman in Donovan Jackson. Jackson missed the game with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Austin Siereveld. He actually played pretty well in Jackson's stead, but the rest of the offensive line wasn't great.

Cody Simon and Donovan Jackson are available for the Ohio State football team

The Ohio State Buckeyes got some good news about these players' availability for the Western Michigan game. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, both players are available for tonight's game. Whether or not they both play is another matter. That is a game-time decision.

It would be great to get both players back for this game. There is an argument for holding both of them out for this game that is pretty compelling though. They shouldn't need either of them to beat Western Michigan with ease. The Buckeyes also have a bye week next week.

That would give both players two extra weeks to heal from their injuries. That might be the best thing for them. It would allow both players to make sure that they are ready to go when they take on some tougher opponents. I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them sit out tonight.
