Ohio State football should approach this QB in the transfer portal
By Ryan Stano
Ever since the season ended, the Ohio State football team has been in contact with several transfer quarterbacks. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be getting anywhere with some of their top priorities. It seems that there's a chance they get left out in the cold.
A new quarterback has just entered his name into the portal, however. That quarterback is former five-star recruit Maalik Murphy from Texas. He started two games this past season for the Longhorns and had 418 yards, 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in those games.
Murphy is a quarterback who has a lot of natural talent. He's got a big arm and has ideal size at 6'5 and 238 pounds. He's someone who is going to stand tough in the pocket and deliver a strike. The question is whether the Buckeyes want to try to grab someone so raw from the portal.
The argument for the Ohio State football team to get a quarterback from the portal is that they don't have any experience at that position heading into next year. Adding Murphy would barely change that since he's only started two games in his collegiate career.
Still, the raw talent Murphy possess is hard to ignore. All of the physical traits are there. He was also just a freshman at Texas, so he has plenty of eligibility left to grow with a program. I'm not saying Ohio State should definitely grab him, but they sure as heck need to at least talk to him.
It remains to be seen whether or not the Buckeyes will actually take a quarterback from the portal this offseason. We'll see what Ryan Day and his staff decide. In my opinion, I think they try to roll with Devin Brown next season. I don't think that's the right decision, but I think that's what Day will do.
