Ohio State football seems to have made 2024 QB decision
By Ryan Stano
Ever since Kyle McCord entered the transfer portal, Ohio State football fans have been wondering what they are going to do at quarterback next year. Several transfers were approached so fans thought that the Buckeyes might use one for next season.
Now that more time has passed, it seems Ohio State is sending us a different message. It seems that either they are content with the quarterback room they have internally next year, or that QBs in the portal weren't interested in coming to Columbus. Both scenarios are interesting.
For those wondering, the QB room next year will consist of Devin Brown, who will start the Cotton Bowl, Lincoln Kienholz, and true freshman Air Noland. Those are the guys that will be competing for the starting job next year with a lot of the skill guys moving on to the Draft.
I say this because if Ohio State was going to get a transfer portal QB, they would have gotten one already. Riley Leonard is off the board, Cam Ward won't entertain a visit with the Buckeyes, and they haven't reached out to Maalik Murphy. All the other options are either committed elsewhere or not an upgrade.
Now if Ryan Day and the offensive staff believe that the guys they have internally are the best options to move forward with, then it is what it is. I'm 50/50 on whether or not I think Brown is good enough to lead this Ohio State football team to a CFP berth. I have no clue how good Keinholz is. Even though I love Noland, I doubt Day would give the keys to a true freshman to lead the team.
How Day handles the quarterback position next year may determine his job status. His friend Gene Smith won't be there anymore to protect him. If he loses to TTUN again, he could get a pink slip. He knows what he's up against. Let's see how he handles the pressure.
