Ohio State football players are already hyping up Jeremiah Smith
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team landed the best recruit in the country for the 2024 class in receiver Jeremiah Smith. Smith is ranked as the top recruit by every major recruiting service and he has earned it with his play over the course of his high school career.
Smith enters a receiver room that doesn't have a lot of experience. Other than Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate somewhat, no one else has played significant snaps. With Marvin Harrison Jr. off to the NFL and Julian Fleming now at Penn State, playing time has opened up.
Smith might be good enough right now as a true freshman to see significant playing time. His teammates seem to think he's going to be a beast as well. Speaking to the media for the first time this year, they were hyping up how good he is.
As you can see in the video above, Smith is already making an impression on his starting quarterback. Will Howard has seen a lot of football in his college football career and he already loves Smith. That bodes well for Ohio State football fans watching this team.
Brandon Inniss was the number-one receiver in last year's recruiting class. He will get more playing time this year and could fight Smith for that third receiver spot. It'll be interesting to see which one of those guys sees the field more while Egbuka is still in Columbus.
No matter how much time Smith gets this year, he will be getting plenty of playing time over the following two years before he heads off to the NFL. It's embarrassing how much talent is in the Buckeyes' wide receiver room. It's such a better room than everyone else has.
The receivers won't be the issue in 2024. We'll see if Howard has enough time to throw to these guys.
