Ohio State football: Michigan's new head coach could get suspended
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team had at least two instances where they were going against Michigan when they were cheating. Connor Stalions was part of the biggest cheating scandal in recent college football history. Because of what he did, Jim Harbaugh fled to the NFL to avoid punishment.
Harbaugh might face punishment if he ever decides to come back to college football. He is one of seven current and former Michigan coaches who face punishment from the NCAA over the scandal according to Dan Murphy of ESPN. One of the current staffers is current head coach Sherrone Moore.
Moore is facing violations for deleting a thread of 52 text messages involving Stalions in an effort to thwart the NCAA investigation into the program. He is facing a suspension and a possible show-cause because of this according to a draft of the Notice of Allegations.
The Ohio State football team might not face Sherrone Moore this season
Moore might face a hefty suspension. Michigan's program in general is facing Level I violations for a pattern of noncompliance when it comes to cooperating with the NCAA. Harbaugh, Chris Partridge, and Denard Robinson are some of the former staffers facing punishment too. Partridge is with Harbaugh in LA and Robinson was fired after a DUI.
It's unlikely that Stalions is ever involved in college football ever again. The Notice of Allegations also details that Stalions was on the sidelines of a Central Michigan game against Michigan State wearing a disguise. We knew that already based on pictures circulating on social media.
It's unclear how long Moore's suspension could possibly be. The Notice of Allegations hasn't been delivered yet and what was shown is just a draft. It is not final. There could be stricter penalties levied on those within the program still. There's a chance the Ohio State football team doesn't see Moore on the sidelines when the two teams play in November.
The Buckeyes were one of several teams victimized by the cheating from TTUN. The penalties need to be harsh to deter a program that has a history of violations from ever happening again.
