Ohio State football: Michigan fans celebrating a win that is really a loss
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is the favorite to win the Big Ten in 2024. The consensus is that it's between them and Oregon for the crown and both should make the CFP. Why not defending champion Michigan? Most of their coaches are gone, including Jim Harbaugh.
Speaking of Harbaugh, Michigan just got punished for his recruiting violations during the COVID-19 dead period. Michigan got hit with three years of probation, recruiting sanctions, and five assistant coaches got a one-year show-cause penalty. One coach didn't participate at all in cooperating with the investigation.
Harbaugh's attorney later said Harbaugh was the one who didn't cooperate with the investigation. He bolted for the NFL because he knew this was coming. He was going to be facing another suspension for this and the other scandal that we'll talk about in a bit.
Meanwhile, Michigan fans are taking victory laps that these penalties are "only" what they got. This is just step one. Step two is when they get punished even harder for the cheating scandal that happened last season. Ohio State football fans know that's when the hammer comes down on TTUN.
It has been reported that there is not a resolution close in that case, so it might not even be until 2025 when Michigan gets punished for that. Recruits have taken notice. Of the 18 Big Ten teams, only Michigan State has a worse recruiting class. That's not a good sign for TTUN.
For some reason, some TTUN fans are taking a victory lap. They shouldn't be. The Wolverines are in trouble replacing all of their playmakers on offense and their coaching staff. The sanctions from the cheating scandal are yet to come and they will make things even worse.
TTUN cheated during their national championship run. Their punishment is on the horizon.
